  1. Just a comment about your UK timber yard question. Here in the UK we are all over the place with the way stuff is priced. My local smaller timber yard sells hardwood in mm thicknesses but is priced by the cu/Foot. So you would go in and ask for say 27mm Ash, and they’d ask how much of it you want in cu/Foot. Which being brought up with and taught the metric system (like anyone born after 1970 in the UK) makes zero sense. They will often list lengths in mm, but the guy in the yard will be throwing inches at you as he’s asking what kind of lengths you want.

I have a much larger Hardwood supplier further away from me that has a retail section which just prices stuff by the board (with stickers actually on boards, with all the dimensions in metric). But I reckon its B2B section gets requests from customers in all kinds of metric/imperial mixes.

It’s a mess basically, and as a non business customer I’d just go in asking for what you need and let the yard translate.
